Covenant Relationships

The New Testament has dozens of “one another” scriptures that bind us together in the body of Christ. What a great and exciting responsibility God has given us to carry them out! Love one another, instruct one another, agree with one another, submit to one another, encourage one another, offer hospitality to one another…and on and on! One way to fulfill these commands is entering into and maintaining one-on-one discipling relationships. Others may call it mentorship. We are not unfamiliar with these terms but we are always trying to improve on the IMPLEMENTATION of such a structure of relationships within the church. This sermon series entitled “Covenant Relationships” embarks on this task: a call to recommit ourselves to one another discipling relationships such that they become an effective device for personal growth and a vehicle in which the church can fulfill these many “one another” commands. The Biblical backdrop of this series is a study on the relationship between David and Jonathan found in the books of 1st and 2nd Samuel. The hope is that these relationships become even more – that they become deep, rewarding friendships that call us higher in our walk with Christ. And ultimately, we believe it is God’s desire to continually transform those in the church into the image of Christ! Let us pray that our one another relationships continue to serve as a fashioning tool to help achieve that goal.
