Rise Up and Build

God’s vision for our church is beyond our imagination.

Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. (Psalm 40:5 NIV84)

The leadership of Orange County Church of Christ have tried our best through prayer and fasting to be in tune with what God’s vision is for our church. We have landed on a long-range plan to have eight “worship centers” by the end of 2020. Five of the centers would be geographic: Fullerton, Costa Mesa, Garden Grove, South Coast and Irvine. The others would be language based: Spanish, Korean and Vietnamese.

For this to happen, we need every disciple in the church to examine what gifts God has given him or her and decide to fully use these gifts to advance God’s kingdom.

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. (1 Peter 4:10 NIV84)

We will need disciples to serve in the various worship ministries. We will need disciples to work with our preteen, junior high and high school groups. We will need disciples to work with the elderly and those who are homebound or in the hospital. We will need disciples to coordinate and go on mission trips to Mexico and Central America. We will need disciples to sacrifice financially to provide the funds necessary to accomplish all of this. We will need disciples to be trained in the audio-visual field. We will need disciples to coordinate projects for the poor and needy in the Orange County community as well as within the church. We will need disciples with administrative skills to volunteer their time. We will need disciples to train to go into the fulltime ministry. We will need disciples to help make our Internet presence excellent and effective. We will also need many disciples to become small-group leaders and shepherds to lead and take care of disciples on a daily basis as well as reach out to, study the Bible with and baptize as many new disciples as possible.

This is just the beginning. In order to accomplish all God has in store for us, we must with one heart use all He has given us to build His kingdom in Orange County and beyond.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. (Romans 12:6-8 NIV84)

One step in making this vision a reality is to train as many people as possible to lead small groups and to be shepherds for the church. To this end we are having a six-week training session for the church starting April 1 and ending June 10. These sessions will be interactive,  hands-on homework will be assigned at the end of each session as well. Anyone who would like to become a small-group leader or a shepherd or who simply wants to grow in their spiritual leadership skills is invited. The schedule is below.

Soon we will also post a list of other specific needs we have as a church so you will be able to volunteer for them as well. We are excited to see what God will do this decade and beyond as we work together with one heart to build God’s kingdom in Orange County.
