Men’s Retreat Location Changed

As you know, our Men’s Retreat has been scheduled for this coming weekend in Big Bear. Because of the impending snow storm that is predicted, our Men’s Retreat LOCATION HAS BEEN CHANGED from Big Bear to IRVINE. We WILL be having it at the Orange County Church Building at 10 Goodyear. The cost of the retreat will be reduced to $50 per person, which will include 2 catered meals, snacks, 2 books, and our guest speaker, Sam Laing, from Florida. Those who have already registered will be refunded the difference. We do hope that this will enable EVEN MORE brothers to be a part of this incredible weekend together!

We will begin our Men’s Retreat Program at 6pm with dinner. Our program will go from 6p-10p Friday night, 9a-Noon on Saturday. We will then encourage the brothers to go to lunch with their small groups, perhaps do something recreationally Saturday afternoon, meet back at the building at 5pm Saturday evening for another great lesson, dinner, and games together; we would then meet back together on Sunday Morning for our closing retreat program that will go from 8:30am-10am.

Because of these changes, the WOMEN’S SERVICE time is adjusted to go from 10:30am-Noon. This will also mean that their will be NO Kingdom Kids Program for either service, which will enable all the men to attend the Sunday Men’s Service and all the women to attend the Women’s Service. The boys pre-teen and older are encouraged to attend the Men’s Service and the girls pre-teen and older are encouraged to attend the Women’s Service. The mothers will be with their children during the Men’s Service and the fathers will be with their children during the Women’s Service. We are asking that each Family Group Leader please make arrangements for those single parents in their groups who would need additional assistance in watching their children.

We appreciate, in advance, everyone’s patience and flexibility with all of these changes. We do believe that God is going to work powerfully through this Men’s Retreat to help all of us men to rise up and be men and leaders of greater spiritual impact!

For those men NOT YET registered for the retreat, please click here: MEN’S RETREAT REGISTRATION to register at the reduced rate. We need every brother who has not already registered but who will now attend the retreat to please register ASAP so that we know how much food to provide for Friday and Saturday. This would also be a great event for the brothers to invite their men friends to come and participate. We look forward to a great weekend together!

2017 Prayer and Fasting

2017 Prayer and Fasting

“In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the Tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.”  – Acts 13:1-3

“’Even now,’ declares the Lord, ‘return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.’”  – Joel 2:12

“There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions.” – Ezra 8:21
The members of the Orange County Church of Christ will be fasting from January 13th – 15th to begin the year crying out to God for His wisdom, power and direction. The theme of our year is “By Faith”. We realize that all blessings, growth, and transformation come from God. We also realize that our faith, in combination with God’s power, will produce incredible miracles. We have seen so many tremendous miracles here in the church over the years but we also realize that we have just begun to have the impact on our community, campuses, families and marriages that God desires.

Prayer and fasting is a powerful avenue for God’s people to spiritually connect with God as well as grow in our intimacy and our faith. As we give up food for these few days we will realize our weak and fragile state as well as God’s powerful presence. We are also showing God how serious we are about our own spiritual growth and desire to be used by Him as his servants. We can then all look forward to seeing and hearing about all the miracles God will do as we depend on Him.

HOPE Worldwide Academy is a “Hero”!

HOPEwwLast spring, Orange County launched the nationwide HOPE worldwide Saturday Academy program at Heroes Elementary School in Santa Ana, CA. In a city where only 15% of the population is college educated and the crime rate is above the national average, volunteers offered more than a resource, they brought inspiration and hope to a group of young 4th and 5th graders.

The 8 week program aims to build student’s Math and English skills, while also focusing on character development. The students were even taught how to save money in the financial literacy segment from Senior Business Intelligence Developer, Diane Mitchell.

This fall, HOPE Saturday Academy returns to Heroes Elementary School with returning and new volunteers. The students are eager to begin the program again. Previous students showed improvement in academics, a renewed spirit and increased confidence.

Saturday Academy commences Saturday, September 24th. If you are interested in volunteering, please email moc.liamgnull@jonadrd

Parenting:  A Sacred Task

Parenting2016FPParenting in today’s world is a challenging task because there are so many influences surrounding our children that are contrary to God’s vision for them. However, through God’s word and help from other godly parents, we can be successful in raising our children to be all that God has intended. Please join us as we learn how to be great parents together.

James & Wende Hamann have been disciples of Christ for 32 years and married for 27. They have 3 children; Sorin 23, Travis 19, and Karley 12. Both have served in the ministry for 16 years and for the past 10 years have been educators in High School and Middle School.
James and Wende have done an outstanding job raising their children God’s way and have many varied experiences that will be relatable and helpful in our own parenting.
